About Lucy
Curly dark brown hair is the first thing anyone mentions about Lucy, and she has given up pretending to be bored by it. She is 163 cm and slender, and she moves lightly, the sort of person who is somehow already sitting down when you turn round. Brown eyes, wide set. She wears soft, close things and no heel to speak of, which on the Eton cobbles is not modesty, it is sense.
Mid twenties, English, curious and a bit mischievous. She asks the questions people avoid asking and then softens them by laughing at her own nerve. She likes old pubs, cold walks and any building with a date carved into it. She has the useful gift of being interested in whatever you are interested in, without any of the flattery that usually comes with the claim. Nothing about her feels rehearsed, and she is quick to admit when she has no idea.
In Eton she starts at the hotel on the High Street more often than anywhere else. It is the only proper hotel on this side of the bridge, the bar is small enough that the room fills with two dozen people, and Windsor is six minutes away on foot when you want it. She lives in Pimlico and comes out by train to Slough, then the shuttle, which runs every half hour and takes six minutes on the dot.

An evening with Lucy
Everything here is within four minutes of everything else, which Lucy uses properly. She will meet you in the bar, take you out for dinner along the High Street, and then decide on the spot whether the night wants a bridge in it. If it does, you stand in the middle of it for a minute looking at the castle, and she says nothing, which is the correct response. If it does not, there is a small dark pub two doors along that has been there for two hundred years and does not care what time your flight is. She is playful, close company, and she pays proper attention. There is no travel to arrange and no timetable to beat, and that is the whole appeal of this side of the river.

01Why Eton rather than Windsor?
Because you can hear each other. Windsor is louder and the same distance from everything I want to show you.
02Last train back to Slough?
The shuttle gives up around half eleven, so if you want me later than that, book it properly and we skip the clock.
03Favourite thing on the High Street?
The doorways. Half of them are the wrong height because the road has risen around them. I point at them constantly.
