About Nora
Nora runs most mornings and it shows: 166 cm, athletic, with the light step of somebody who has never once taken a lift for one floor. Her hair is long and honey blonde, usually tied back until the evening starts properly, and her eyes are hazel and very direct. She keeps her evening clothes simple, a plain dress and a good coat, on the reasonable grounds that an airport hotel is not the place for a statement.
Mid twenties, English, brisk and friendly. She is better than almost anyone at the first five minutes, which in a hotel bar full of strangers is a real skill. She likes early starts, proper coffee and people who say what they mean. She is genuinely uninterested in gossip and rather interested in what your job is actually like at three in the afternoon on a bad Tuesday.
The Bath Road is her stretch, and she works most often out of the house at TW6 2AQ, which sits right under the northern runway and has the best view of it in the business. People either love that or last about twenty minutes, and she finds it a useful early test. From her own address in Paddington the terminals are under half an hour, and because that time belongs to the booking, airport nights here start at three hours.

An evening with Nora
The runway is right there and she uses it. First drink by a window, aircraft coming in every ninety seconds, and a conversation that starts with where each of them has come from. It is a better opening than most restaurants manage. From there the evening settles: dinner in the hotel if the hour has gone past sensible, or ten minutes down the Bath Road to somewhere with a kitchen that stays honest until late. Nora is straightforward, warm and quick, and she never pretends the setting is romantic, because it is not, it is a road between a runway and a reservoir. What she offers instead is genuinely good company in a place that is usually short of it.

01Is the runway view a gimmick?
For about ten minutes it is the best thing in the building, and after that it is wallpaper. Ten minutes is plenty.
02How early can you start?
Very. Breakfast hours are normal at this end of the country, and I am better at seven in the morning than most people are at seven at night.
