An evening with Patricia
Poyle Road is an odd address: a hotel in its own grounds with a motorway spur on one side and fields on the other. Patricia likes it for exactly that reason. The evening is unhurried from the first minute. She does not arrive full of questions, she arrives and sits down, and things unfold from there. Dinner is in the building more often than not, since the alternative is a ten minute drive and neither of you usually wants one at half nine. She is attentive without hovering and very easy to talk to about nothing in particular. When it is over she takes her own car back to the terminal, which is a seven minute run at that hour.
