About Angelika
Angelika does not make an entrance. She turns up on time, which out here counts for more. She stands 172 cm, athletic in the way of someone who swims rather than talks about swimming, and she crosses a hotel lobby without looking for an audience. Her hair is long, straight and black, worn down and left alone. Brown eyes, steady, slow to move off your face. For a Slough evening she dresses one notch above the room: a dark dress, a heel she can walk a car park in, a coat that survives the taxi rank.
She is quiet for the first ten minutes and very good company after that. English only, spoken plainly, with a dry eye for the absurd parts of a business trip. Mid twenties. She asks about your week and still has the answer an hour later. The flat boredom of a Tuesday night away from home is something she understands without wanting it explained.
Most of her evenings here start at the hotel on Cippenham Lane, five minutes off junction 6 and close enough to the trading estate that nobody has to plan a journey. She meets guests in the bar downstairs rather than upstairs, and she is not troubled by the fact that the window looks at a car park. Home for her is Mayfair, so the Elizabeth line puts her at Slough station in a little over half an hour, then a short cab ride west.

An evening with Angelika
She will be in the bar before you are, with a book she is not really reading. The first drink is spent working out what kind of night you want, and she is quick about it. If the answer is dinner, she has views on where is still serving after nine in this part of town, and she is right more often than not. If the answer is staying put, she is entirely happy to stay put. Talk goes wherever you take it: work, the flight home, the town she has watched change every month for two years. She does not fill silences for the sake of it. When the evening is over she orders her own car, says goodnight in the lobby, and leaves you to an early alarm.

How short everything is. People book extra time for travel that takes eleven minutes. Use the hour on the evening instead.

Lobby bar first, always. It settles both of us. After that I am happy to walk out to a table if you want one.
03Do you mind a guest who is tired?
Not at all. Half the people I meet have been awake since five. A slow evening is still a good one.
